becoming a happy adult in a sunny sustainable world.
…but just barely so. The race didn’t go so well (like not hitting my A, B, or goals…); but, I finished. I’m going to have a nice long race recap maybe tomorrow after the sting of “failure” starts to wear off.
For now, I’m off to get some ice cream and head back to Augusta.
Ps. Is it really already Sunday afternoon? Where did the weekend go?

Pen…read these words and believe them: YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE! You just ran a marathon…bow dow…awesome!
Hey, you finished which is awesome! More than I could do, so that’s not a failure at all! Cheer up chicky!
Failure?!!!!!!!! No way my dear, you just ran a marathon. You are in nooooooo way a failure!! You are a rockstar!!
((hugs)) you are NOT a failure girl! you finished and, while the disappointment of not hitting your goals sucks, it is a big accomplishment
Sorry to hear you’re disappointed with your performance, I’m pretty hard on myself and when I don’t hit my goals I’ve been working to for a while I definitely let it get to me. However, to repeat what everyone else is saying, you’re definitely not a failure! Finishing a marathon is a big accomplishment!
failure? failure?
YOU ARE NOT a failure…not NOT a failure…
i used to competitively run, loved it, did well with it, my passion, so much strength and potential..and now nothing
for u to honor your physical ability and just do something brave is AMAZING….amazing….
and remember…even deena kastor has had to not finish olympic marathons …..even apollo ono has been disqualified on the track….even lindsay vonn crashes….even kurt browning won the world championships 4 years in a row, but failed to even rank in the top 5 for the olympics those 4 years after horrendous programs…
YOU Are not a failure
and i hope u eat 5 or 10 pints of ice cream + two
Sorry it didn’t go as planned. But you finished and that is the most important part!!
Dude, you just ran a marathon (and a hilly one at that), you are not a failure! But sorry that the race didn’t go as planned.
YOU RAN A MARATHON!!! Kick. Ass. If I were down south, I would make you cupcakes.
Completing a marathon is a huge accomplishment. So you did great no matter what.
Can’t wait to read your recap!
awww… there is nothing fun about working hard for months and having things not go your way.
here’s hoping that this crummy race day makes your next awesome race day (which I’m sure will come soon) that much sweeter.
Its never a failure when you finish!
sorry you had a bad race:( that course is pretty brutal. enjoy that ice cream- you earned it. Running 26.2 is a big deal, no matter how long it takes.
Ditto everything above me. It sucks when you have a goal and miss it, but dude, you ran 26.3 miles. You can sleep well knowing that you are far cooler than the vast majority of the world, myself included! You rock!
I agree with those above that say completing a MARATHON is a SUCCESS! We all have goals and it is disappointing to ourselves when we don’t accomplish them, but know that it is not a disappointment to anyone else. We all think you are a rockstar for completing a marathon period.
COMPLETING a Marathon is AMAZING!! you r a rockstar!…there is NO way that can be looked at as a fail!!! keep your head up chica, you will achieve all your goals with the right mind-set and outlook!! I hope you are having a great monday! and feeling good post-marathon!! xoxo!
I second everyone above. You are NOT a failure!!! Hope you’re feeling better about it today.
Oh girl I’m sorry that you are disappointed.
But you did complete the race and that is an amazing accomplishment already!
Congrats on finishing!! That’s the main HUGE goal!! I’d rather finish then quit, even if it took me days! Just be proud of that. There are many other races where you can try again. I know you can do it.
Ice cream sounds really good.
Wish I had some!!
My dear you are, in no way, shape or form, a failure. You just finished a marathon! And regardless of your time, you should be wonderfully proud of that accomplishment.
girlfriend, give yourself some damn credit. You ran a bloody marathon. Hitting your goals or not, you still did it. Lots of people are very proud of you.
You never know what race day will bring. You can do all you can leading up to it but you just cannot control what happens. Don’t be too hard on yourself, you still ran a freakin marathon!
Oh girl, I feel your physical and emotional pain. I was among the lambs to the Druid Hills slaughter at ING Georgia 2010 as well. It was my first marathon and I got absolutely, positively, unequivocally ANNIHILATED by the hill on 12th coming out of Piedmont Park. I was wayyy too pace-greedy early on (rookie mistake), and then at about 22.5 miles, almost completely perished and barely managed to scrape together that last four miles to stagger across the line 31 seconds from my goal time. I’ve been kicking myself ever since wondering what tiny adjustment I could have made to shave off those few elusive seconds. We are still both gunning for that sub-3:30…
I completely empathize with your feelings of disappointment… running is so cyclical… hope we can both take the day or two to evaluate, and not forget to pat ourselves on the back for running 26 point freakin’ 2 and remember that there are ups and downs and not every day will be a PR, not every race will feel good… and let the bad days light a fire under us for next time! I know I’m excited to get back to some shorter distances…
Best of luck, I’m enjoying stalking your blog.
sorry for the essay..
you ran a marathon, and that is amazing! don’t be upset
Loveee! come to bmore and lets eat crab pretzels and drink beer all day
Zomg. You finished a marathon! You are a lawyer! You are funny! You are a great cook! You are fiesty! You are not a failure but one of my inspirations! Cheer up or I’ll punch you! (joke)
