becoming a happy adult in a sunny sustainable world.
Today was one of those days. I was stressed from the start after spending all day working…and I woke up early this morning to continue working (though, bonus points for me–up at 6am for the 5th straight day in a row). And it was just downhill from that point on. Surprisingly I handled it quite well until this afternoon. And I still handled it well on the outside this afternoon. But inside I was bubbling with rage and frustration. And I came home from work ready to explode.
So. I did twenty minutes of meditation. And that helped some. But I needed more. And I kneaded more. (I can’t miss the chance for a good pun. Sorry.)
Pizza dough.
Yep. Pizza/rustic tarte for dins. Pizza dough from scratch…with lots of dough to knead and punch all my frustrations out on. Perfect and tasty.
Ready for some rising…
Spread it all out, top with onions sauteed in evoo with fresh thyme. And bake for 12 minutes.
Take it out, top with gorgonzola and chopped walnuts and stick back in the oven for 10 minutes.
And top with (CSA) arugala!
Served with Sesame Ginger Soy glazed Sweet Potatoes and some TJ’s 2-buck chuck.
Nom nom nom.
Ok, off to bed ladies and gents…but tell me, what do you all do to work out anger and frustration?! but, seriously folks, punching pizza dough = best ever.
A public defender super heroine by day, I am a cupcake baker extraordinaire by night. And come weekend, I am an IronPerson. I deal with an NPR addiction daily and I dream of one day having Carl Kasell on my answering machine. I strive to be the best fur-mommy I can be, and when I have time, I'm learning to be a grownup.

I haven’t made a homemade pizza in forever! Maybe I should…just so I can beat my stress out on the dough
Usually if I’m angry I’ll vent to my friends cuz apparently they find it entertaining!
Nothing quite that awesome… I enjoy screaming, singing Alanis Morissette (which is kind of the same thing), and ripping paper. And then when I’m tired, a nap. This is if TCL isn’t around to calm me the hell down.
Now that’s something I hadn’t thought of! Not only do you get frustration out, but you produce something delicious! Love it!
Hopefully it helped a little with the stress! I’m wondering if everything’s just getting more stressful because the winter doldrums are setting in? Ick…
Hopefully tomorrow will be better and brighter!
Wow, you are so creative Pen. And rage…it lives in me …I hear u on that so so well.
Merely READING about that pizza made me die and go to heaven. Seriously – those are some of my fave ingredients! I want so badly to find a boxing class – at least I think that’s what I’m after. Something where I can strap on some of those gloves and beat the crap out of one of those heavy bags.
Eek, sorry you got such a bad start to the wk but at least you have an outlet for that! I am not sure what looks better-your meal or that cute napkin!
For me, I take my dog for a long walk or play around with him (he makes me forgot about my frustrations and with him-all is right with the world) or chop veggies and cook.
Only four more days to go
Your pizza looks incredible!! So gourmet!! Pizza from scratch cannot be beat. Your choice of toppings, wow. Making me drool!! I’m impressed, well done!!
Gah! That pizza looks so good. I’m always in awe of people who actually make their own dough; kneading and yeast intimidate me too much, but I want to try it so badly. I imagine it’s a great way to work out frustration too
To work out my frustrations, I play with my puppy or do some yoga. If that doesn’t work, I plug into my iPod and listen to something loud and angry
It usually works to melt the bad mood away.
I could have totally used some pizza dough punching to work out my frustrations last night. Usually I would go for a run, but since that is the cause of my frustrations, that is out.
HOLY F*CKING DROOOLZZZZZZZZZZ. lOVELY pizzaa….mmmmm….if i’m frustrated I just yell really loud till I feel crazy…or till my neighbors call the cops on me.
If that pizza is a result of frustration, then well geez, I need to get frustrated more often!
Yoga normally works for me… it always brings my emotions to the surface, but they inevitably float away by the end of my practice.
WOW Pen that pizza looks fabulous! Whenever I am super stressed I cry. I know it sounds like a typical “girly” answer but I can’t help it. I just cry and usually after I get a good cry out I feel better!
Oh…hope today is better!
Haha, that’s such a good stress-relief method! And the pizza itself sounds mighty tasty. When you said “kneading” I thought of massages. They really help me relax.
Thanks for sharing your story under my post. It’s so hard being so limited and isolated at times…. totally makes it all cyclical.
Well, I think you’re beautiful.
And so is that pizza.
I walk and listen to public radio podcasts. Sad, but true. I used to use running to cope, but then I ran too much and got injured and it was a whole vicious circle. So now it’s me, the iPod and Ira Glass.
In all seriousness? I do Muay Thai and stick fighting. No lie. I’ve got major martial arts love going on over here!
That pizza looks fantastic! Like something very fancy and bistro-esque!
That is the most delicious looking pizza I have ever seen…..yum!
PIzza looks yummy!!!
As for stress… I run
Ive NEVER made homemade pizza. Love the idea of using it for stress relief.
It looks SO yummy too!!
look FANTASTIC! and i either run, eat ice cream, or retreat under the covers with my laptop and trash tv when i am stressed out. sometimes all three in a row.
Thanks for stopping by my blog! I just love TJ’s. I’ve never made my own pizza dough, but I always by TJ’s garlic & herb dough. So easy and tasty! Homemade pizza is the best.
WOW home made pizza is one thing i have yet to create!! i usually lift weights, pray, or talk to my momma. love the feeling of relieving stress!
Awesome looking pizza, who knew dinner preparation could be so therapeutic!
When I’m in a nasty mood a run always helps. Actually the hubby can tell when I haven’t been running…. I’m not my normal chipper self. LOL
Can I have a slice? That looks SO good. I like the idea of making it tomato sauce-less for a change too.
csa arugula…omg when we lived in san diego for 6 yrs we had the best csa and here in phx for the last 6 mos nothing. withdrawals!
your bread looks gorgeous!
yoga is my outlet for everything
Darn- I wish I had read this post before I cooked dinner last night! Then maybe I would have made my own pizza dough rather than using Pillsbury
At lot of deep breaths and/or a run helps me with frustration.
Hooray for puns, and gimme summa dat pizza and sweet potatoes!!!
I love making pizza to work out frustrations! Honestly I bake all the time to clear my mind. It is very relaxing and rythmic for me to be in the kitchen. I think the measuring of everything helps me focus on something else. That way, it kind of eases my mind and I get a treat afterwards!
I love homemade pizza! My mom makes the best–with delicious roasted veggies.
Enjoy your night,
Sara

Omg that pizza looks incredible! I really need to learn to take my stress out in a producive way, like you did, rather than wallowing in it. So thank you for sharing this!
[...] And that is cooking. With dough that has to be kneaded. Or…in my case…pounded. [...]
